L78 vs L34 post >> http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142380
They are very different. L78 has rectangular port heads and intake, higher compression forged pistons, and solid lifter camshaft. L34 has oval port heads and intake, cast pistons (lower comp. ratio), and hydraulic camshaft. Those are the significant differences; there are other differences in carburetion and distributors. The two engines that are similar are the L35 and L34. The L34 (350HP) and L35 (325HP) are basically the same with the primary exception being the camshaft.
