Looking for a little advice, I have a 71 Chevelle with a 350
4bbl holley 750 vac
performer intake
Voodoo cam Duration 268/ 276, Lift .489/ .504
a nice set of 202 160 cast iron heads
.030 over w/flat tops
HEI w/ msd
Headers 2.5 pipes flowmasters and an h-pipe
2400 stall
700r-4 and 3.73's

The car is pretty quick, but I know my intake is not matched to the cam specs. cam is good to 6500 the intake to 5500. I dont do alot of high rpm racing anymore but I do get on it ALL the time. Alot of launches at stoplites.

Would I benefit from another intake? Would I make more useable torque or am I gonna loose my low end power?

Any suggestions are welcome

My guess is your not gonna see any performance gain until later in the rpm's. I dont think the difference will be very noticable in the seat O the pants meter.

Going from a dual plane to a little higher dual plane I just dont think you will feel much difference and would only see difference in mph and time slip. JMO

my buddy swapped his RPM for a performer on his elky...and you would swear he put a different engine in it ..
That thing was a putz must have lost 40 lbs of torque..But he wanted to put the rpm on his TA.

That engine had 355ci. and flattops and a performer cam..and was a 5500 rpm engine..ported ex. manifolds and duals with flomasters..

I tried to tune the power back, thinking he had the timing all screw up.. but it was usless.. tried jetting and many different carbs and coils ,distributors... nothing helped .

That engine did NOT like the performer intake

The RPM has MUCH larger runners.

What is a "nice" set of heads? what casting? (anybody can stick big valves into anything, even garbage; alot of castings, you might as well be putting lipstick on a pig) If the heads are some kind of 70s smoggers like 882 or 624 or 993 or some such, piddling around with the intake is about the same as the larger valves.... worthless monkey-motion that doesn't address tha actual shortcomings of the engine.

The RPM does have much larger runners.

I saw a gas mileage and seat of the pants feel improvement with an RPM and holley 600 over a rochester 500 2-barrel with cast iron manifold.

Did that make sense?:confused:

And smoked tires for days with a stock 350.

According to mortech, 3973370....69-70...350..........over the counter in US, Canadian 350/300hp production use in Pontiac, 64cc, straight or angle plug.

I dont know if they were factory 2.02 but they are now. 5 angle valve job, Bronze guides and the springs were set up to match the cam. No porting.

I can't stop laughing. I like it when a highly intelligent man has a great common choice of analogies or metaphors to get his message across,,,,, "nice" heads,,, "lipstick on a pig",,,,,"piddling" around with the intake,,,,"monkey-motion",,,,, "shortcomings" of the engine. Well I did stop laughing, but every time I picture that pig,, I start back. LJ
