SPI recommends 80 grit. I'd use it even inside the 7 day window just to be safe.
Is that what they say? I don't use SPI but all the others I've used recommend a red scotchbrite. HOK, Transtar, PPG, R-M. Is the 80 recommended prior to the epoxy? I've shot over it 3 or 4 days later with no problems. Even EDP recommends only a scotchbrite. The good kind of EDP that is.

80 grit is what you use prior to epoxy (What Barry recommends for SPI Epoxy). I would guess a light scuffing like you state would work but you might want to post on the SPI site to get the answer your looking for.
You're right. 80 grit on the bare metal BEFORE epoxy. Sorry, I wasn't awake yet I guess.

When I used it ont he Charger, I hit it with 120 before applying any filler or high build primers. All you're doing is giving the new material something to bite into and anything between 80-180 should do just fine.
