I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to which gear ratio I should be running. I am in the market for a 12 bolt posi rearend.

I have a 454 with a 700R4 trans that will be running about 500HP.

I would like to have some punch off the line but not sacrifice all of my MPG for cruising around. I am not building a grocery getter but at over $4.00 per gallon I don't want to get too crazy either. Is it possible to have my cake and eat it too? How about eating only half?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

I think with 500 hp and big block torque with 3.73's you would need slicks to get it to hook. I'm a little south of 500 hp and I have 3.31's and I have to feather the gas in first to keep it hooked. If I mat it it just blows the tires off. 3.31's or 3.42's is my vote for a street car. And you'll still be able to light them up any time you want.

good luck on that rear end, I spent $1700 rehabbing a used 12 posi. All new internals and I am doing the labor.
