Also what years would I not want and how would I tell what year it is?if it's complete you cant see internal damage. If he know's nothing about it, is he sure it's a 454 and not a 366 or something less valuable, or if it's damaged. Run the numbers first, but if it is a 454, and you can't see if it is damaged or not, a couple hundred would be all I'd give. It's basically just a core, and you don't know for sure if it's rebuildable or not.
If he's just scrapping the stuff for junk price, it's only worth less than $50 by weight. For that price something on it would be worth the money paid.
