"appeared to be a 435 hp cam". Which I belive would only be .540 lift. Sure you dont have an L88 cam? Either would be pretty sucky with 9:1 compression though, those old skool grinds bleed down a bunch. Yet 114 isnt shabby, 117-118 would be better.
How much $$ are you committing? If a compression test shows good sealing, you might consider a hyd roller, or a modern flat tappet, to give a bit more cylinder pressure, i.e, mid range torque without changing anything else.
