Some background info may help. IE, what region of country are you at, your skills/backgrounds, etc.
One thing that was a good $ maker was lawn aerations in my area. Bought a machine one year, cheap advertisement, did a yard for avg $25 a pop and paid off machine and made some extra money. Next year got 2 machines, and number of yards we did per hour increased, therefore more profit, etc.
In our area, there's "trash" days where cities would sponsor a clean up day. Neighborhood would put large items on curb for pick up. We would go around the night before gathering broken lawn mowers and machinery, cobble together something from all parts. Ended up selling them for modest sum either at garage sales or through papers.
These are just some examples I figure you could handle small engine repairs if you'er a chevelle or auto mechanically inclined.
Best of Luck to ya.
