I have a 1970 chevelle with a 396/350hp. I'm looking to get a 7040204, which was the original Qjet. question i have is, were the carbs shipped with the engine, or assembled at the vehicle assembly line. Meaning, if the carb date is after the engine assembly date, but before the vehicle assembly date, would it still be considered within the right date range. I suppose the safest bet would be if it predates both, but 7040204 is hard enough to find as it is. Also, if anyone has 7040204 for sale i would be interested.

Engines were run tested with propane before being shipped out from either Flint or Tonawanda, so the carbs were already on them when they hit the assembly plant.

Back in the day when these cars were new I remember opening a hood on a new 70 SS Camino that the factory must have forgot to even put the intake on. Everything was missing even the intake. 😲

correct 7040204 are hard to find, lots of restamps on ebay.Check out the stamp fonts and carb vacuum lines with a known original picture.Youll see how easy it is to get ripped off. Prices are gone way up to.Ive got an original one that was never installed on a car, so these were kicking around everywhere in the factory and when and where they grabbed it if ever was a crap shoot.Youll find date coded close or far in between on numbers matching survivors.early ones often dont have the 7 in the stamp and is correct.
