So today was a new experience. I went to a memorial run for the local soldiers who have been KIA, my oldest brother being one (CPT Hill Oct. '05). We met at a local Harley shop along with aprox. 300 bike riders, and half a dozen other classic cars. The run was to drive through Modesto, CA, then out through Oakdale and up to Jamestown (gold country) for about an hour and a half ride/drive. On the way up we pulled through the Cemetary where the majority of the soldiers have been layed to rest, and then up to the last stop.

Part of the way we had a police escort, highway patrol at another and the rest of the way the procession began and ended with trailers adorned with military flags, POW flags, MIA flags, US Flags etc. While in this mile long procession at each of the intersections a hand full of bike riders would block off the cross trafffic to keep from being split up and or injured by crossing traffic.

While In Oakdale the last major town before we got to gold country, we had a local sherrif at the main light, but the smaller intersections leading up to the main light we had the bike riders blocking them to get through as fast as possible. As I was coming up to the last intersection before a light, an angry auto driver tried to push his way into the procession between two bikers with his Toyota Corolla. Another biker quickly pulled up and either told him nicely he wasnt getting in this was a memorial rid, or gave him an ear full... (my guess is for the latter) because he then put his toyota in revers and hastilly drive in the opposite direction.

The ride was great, the drive was great, no problems with the car, had a few of the bikers even admiring my car, and had a good day out with my wife my new born son and my brother and his young son all in the Chevelle.

Aint it great to be an American. I will post a picture of the procession from our vantage point tomorrow... its late now.

Wish I would have known! I ended up driving to Sacto raceway in my Velle to check out the Fremont reunion. It was OK, not many full brackets. The memorial run would have been good for me and the wife as she can't hang all day at the track, (back problems).
Let me know for next years run. I live in Salida which is next to Modesto.

Regards,
Rich
