I have a problem with my chevelle. I go to turn on the headlights, all of my guages peg out and my turn signals come on steady. I can still use the flashers though. As soon as I turn off the headlights everything goes back to normal.

Any advice

Sounds like a missing ground. Perhaps a dash ground. Think the first thing I would try is to check to see if there is a good ground wire from battery negative (-) to the right inside fender. If that's there and looking good:
Next I would add a jumper wire from the fuel gage ground wire (black) to a metal part of the dash. See if the fuel gage starts acting normal doing that.

You have a bad ground. Check under the dash to be sure that there is a black wire with a ring connector connected to the emergency brake pedal assy. This supplies the ground connection for the dash guages and lights. Also, check behind the headlight buckets to be sure that the ground wires are connected to the radiator support.
