Was gonna take the family someplace warm for Spring Break but the airfares are INSANE! So, I'm thinking of going to DC for a few days instead. I've been there a bunch of times but never with kids. I'd like to find a place with an indoor pool so the kids can get wet after a long day.

Any suggestions for hotels? Doesn't need to be in the city.

Thanks.

Mark,
The only thing I would suggest is to stay in the Virginia suburbs if you are not going to stay in town. Although I live in Maryland, sad to say I would not suggest you staying anywhere in the close in Maryland suburbs. Are you going to rent a car or depend on Metro to get back and forth from town ?

Feel free to PM me if you need more info.

Mark,
Alexandria is ok. Depending on what you want to see, I think there are some nice hotels out near Dulles airport and the Air & Space museum annex out there is awesome if you are into aircraft. That area is also a fairly easy drive into town on Rt 66.

I disagree with BillK on staying near Dulles, the drive in on RT 66 can be a big pain anytime of the day, I have done it in both directions many times in the past two years. My suggestion, the Greenbelt-College Park area, you can ride the Metro into town, the only way to go IMHO. Good luck with your trip.

traffic is def a pita if your unfam. with the area-they go out and wreck on 495 every morn and night just to slow traffic down, lol
Cryatal City, Va, Dulles area has a lot of hotels, the Washington Harbor has pretty new stuff also
we had about 6" of snow last night-wonderful ,lol
when i was working in DC, i used to pull up a map online of where all the shootings were, so i knew wether to take someone with me
i grew up in DC, still one big ghetto, they even attack you in the metro stations while the metro workers watch
def stay outside of 495, and avoid PG Co-like any big city in America, just be aware of your surroundings
their trying to fix up the Metro, so on some weekends they are single tracking lines and closing stations

I second Alexandria, there is a nice Hampton Inn walking distance from old alexandria one way and the metro the other way. Nice location with secure parking, wife and I stayed there a couple years ago. I encourage anyone going to DC to use the metro and leave the car parked, much more relaxing and enjoyable.

Mark, right outside DC is the Key Bridge Marriot. It has an indoor pool and great breakfast buffet. You can walk to Georgetown from there, and if you get the right room you'll get a great view of the monuments. Georgetown is a great place to hang out with tons of resturants, shopping and movie theaters. Taxi ride into DC from the hotel would be less than $10. And the Rosslyn Metro is 2 blocks across the street.

Look for other hotels in the Rosslyn, VA area which is right outside of DC. Rosslyn is right next to Arlington Cemetery and the Iwo Jima memorial.

As mentioned before, the Gaylord at the new National Harbor is very nice. That whole area is new as in less than 2 years old. But very pricey.
