I'm replacing the bench seat on my 1970 SS with buckets, and I want to cover them in cloth. I've heard conflicting stories -- were 1970 buckets available in cloth? Or only in vinyl? Even if only the Malibu (not the SS) came with cloth buckets, I'd prefer going with cloth. (Can't stand the way your skin sticks to vinyl in the summertime! I'm obviously not doing a concours restoration.) I'd love any information about where I can find the type of cloth and pattern offered in 1970, so my upholsterer can start work. Thanks! -- Jon in Seattle

You might try an automotive upholstery shop in your area and see if they could make a set of cloth covers for your seats. I think the tweed material that's used in late model cars would look good!

I've never seen Chevelle buckets in cloth that were stock. I have see a '70 SS396 Elky that had factory buckets with the "basketweave" vinyl and it looked most excellent!
