Walmart Takes New Step Toward Making Aerial Deliveries Routine (msn.com)
The flights are limited for the moment to 1 nautical mile (1.15 miles or 1.85 kilometers) from a base outside a Walmart store in Farmington, Arkansas. But the service will be offered in the coming months at additional Arkansas locations in Rogers and Bentonville, where Walmart has its headquarters, the companies said in a statement on Monday.

The goal is to eventually provide service over longer distances.

Yeah, this doesn’t sound like it’s going to end well. Flying low over your property, can you blast it with your 12 gauge? Legally, probably not but you could say you thought it was a duck. Or a clay pigeon. Just remember to get some footage and post it here…
Plus, a $10 delivery fee for 4 cans of tuna? Holy crap, they live big in Arkansas.

l would think you would need to have a beacon that sends a signal code of yours to it. Rent it like you do cable. A good profit idea to have a company that pours a pad for it. I guess you could always get a pad for a air conditioner and use it though.

Our Local drugstore in Vancouver uses drones to get RX's to the gulf Islands and picks up unused RX's for disposal. Round trip approx. 1 hour on a preprogrammed path. Amazon also delivering to local areas via drones as long as you have a landing area and no outside pets!
We took a drone out that was spying on the Armoury using a pair of used panty hose and two tennis balls home made bollo? Any ways the drone came down as usual to look in windows and we spun the panty hose and tennis balls...caught a prop and splat.... an hour later the RCMP came to the doors and asked if we took out a drone...Yes... why? They guy wants it back, was their answer...No, was ours and we closed the doors... they did an investigation and seems his son was flying it illegally...
I like the hostage idea!

I fail to see the attraction of this.
Minimal payload, high wear, equipment and operator expense, durability, and reliability issues.
AKA, NOT ready for prime time!
Just because something is "New" and "Novel" does not necessarily mean BETTER.

Walmart here is wanting to sell liquor in the store. I think they would need a bigger drone to deliver that though.I wonder what kind of safety they have in delivering medicine or liquor by drone that it could end up going to anyone?

"Captain, we are entering an Iceberg strewn area!"
"This is the Titanic, full speed ahead".

It is said that the intelligence of any organization is measured by dividing the brightest members IQ by the number of persons in the organizations management structure.
This applies equally to Wal-Mart and Government.
Awful lot of things going on lately that cannot be expected to end well. :(

High jacking pharmacy deliveries by overriding the frequencies? As I said we use them to get prescriptions to the smaller Islands of our coast no air traffic at lower altitudes.
But around the City you would need a drone Air Traffic controller... I am sure it will come. Or if you knew there was a delivery another drone could snag the delivery drone and take it away to another location. Sounds very James Bond but then again Gorge and Judy Jetson were supposed to be flying to work and the automated beauty salon right about this millennium right?
Amazon bought our old Downtown location post office as it had a Heli-pad on the roof for you guessed it deliveries. The building is in Prime real-estate too where a tower could have gone in...but hey where's there is a want there is a need and Amazon filled it. It also was the last known to public fallout shelter in the City with the lower 3 floors way below grade with the correct amount of concrete above...not that that is an issue but to remove it it would have cost major dollars...so in ways we kept a heritage building but repurposed it... And it is not 50 stories tall!. Now I am for drones as long as they are Gasoline powered LOL
