alright I am building a chevy 400 bore .030 over with vortec Heads. My currently has 355 with vortec heads a th350 with 1500 rpm converter with 3.73:1 rear gear. The cam I am really interested in is the lunati voodoo 60103. I was wondering what is the recomended compression ratio for this cam? This Is in my 87 chevy el camino I am unsure of the weight. Do you think this cam Is the right canidate for my build? Any other info needed?:confused:

Pretty familiar cam... specs are well and widely known.

That cam should be fine in that combo; a good match generally to the head properties. It will want a little more than the stock stall; maybe 2400-2800 or so.

It needs high 9s of compression, REAL. That is, make sure you take into account ALL of the things that affect it, such as the volume of the valve reliefs, and above all the MEASURED deck clearance (how far below the deck, or "down in the hole", the pistons are at TDC), which from the factory was about .025" and after a rebuild is very likely to be as much as .045". This is usually left out of most people's "calculations" and causes the results to be BAD WRONG. Give less emphsasis to what "calculator" you use (they're all the same) and put more importance on getting all the MEASUREMENTS: not guesses, not "look it up in the catalog", not "assumptions; MEASUREMENTS.

The cam specs are
* Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 268/276
* Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 227/233
* Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .489/.504
* LSA/ICL: 110/106
* Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
* RPM Range: 1800-6200
* Includes: Cam Only
I just measured the deck height with the stock 400 I have and the piston is down .025 on 2 cylinders. The new combo will be stock 400 crank, 5.7 rods, and a piston with a compression distance of 1.433 which leaves the piston .017 in the hole. But I know I need actual measurements. So high 9s like 9.8 static? I have 64cc vortec heads with 4.155 inch 18cc dish pistons. The head gaskets have a 4.200 bore with a .039 thickness.The stroke is 3.750 and I am using 5.7 rods. Does this sound ok with the 60103. I can get a 2500rpm stall converter but Didnt think I needed one due to the extra cubes.
