Hi all...I hooked up a set of autometer electrical gauges today and the water temp and oil press. gauges work fine. However, I am not getting any reading off of my voltmeter because I only hooked it up to ground and the ign terminal on the fuse box for power. My thought process was that maybe the voltmeter would work anyway since I had it hooked up to the ign terminal for power (which is where I hooked up the other two gauges with a 4 amp inline fuse). It didn't work. Well, I am trying to figure out where to hook the voltmeter tab on the gauge up to for a reading. Can I just splice in a wire to the daisy chain that I used to power the three gauges (off of the ign terminal on the fuse box) or should I find some place else to splice into. If someplace else, any suggestions to a place that would give me a reading when the key is in the on position? Thank you!

On most GM cars I've seen it's an orange wire.

pos and neg reversed?? Will not show voltage if the leads are reversed. It should have worked off of your IGN pin on the fuse block.

just checked and positive and neg are not reversed...what I think happened is I hooked the neg up to ground. I hooked positive up to the ign terminal on the fuse box. But...I didn't hook the sending unit tab up to anything...because I was thinking that the gauge would read voltage via the power source alone??? and that the sending unit terminal on the back of the gauge did not need to be hooked up at all. I can't find the orange wire that onovakind mentioned but am still looking for that. If I cant find it I was thinking about splicing in a wire from the ign terminal and send that one to the sending unit terminal on the back of the gauge but am a little tentative becuase I don't know how the system will like the same gauge hooked up to the same source for power and a signal...I just don't want to start a fire....
