voltage regulator adjustments

905 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  John_Muha
I recently installed a high output alternator and new external regulator. The amps look fine on my car, but it looks like I'm seeing way too much voltage. Is there any adustment possible on the mechanical external regulator, or do I need a transistor regulator?
TIA

JJ's got a good point. Not worth the time to play with the mechanical ones. Got a solid state (Wells VR715) regulator from the local Autozone in my 64. Think it was around $12.00 with a warranty. Uses the original harness connector and mounting holes in the core support. Two things: 1, Disconnect the battery before installing. 2, You need to ground the Wells' case to the core support. Either use a separate ground strap or remove one of the rubber wellnuts and use a bolt and nut through one of its feet.
