i grabbed a multimeter today and checked the voltage to my coil. it read 3.0x volts volts with no accesories on. the 12 volt source from my firewall gets 12 volts when i pull it off the coil's terminal, but once i put it back on the terminal, it drops to 3 volts. bad coil or what?

It depends.

If you are using a stock points type ignition, and the resister wire is still there, AND the points happen to be closed, yes it could be normal.

Take the cap off, and twist the rotor, see is the voltage goes up to 12 when you get the points open, or just bump it with the key a little bit.

its actually not a points ignition system. its an msd ready to run distributor. i think those yellow wires are resistor wires so i cut them out of the equation by taping them and tucking them away. i ran a new wire. 12volt key-on. tested the voltage: 12 volts. i havent ran the car yet, but tomorrow i surely will. thanks everyone!

You need 12 bolts. Think that could have been your fuel problem you thought you had ??????????

Thats why i asked you this numerous times

" Mike, What do the sprak plugs and exhaust ports look like?"
You would be a little angry if that was your problem and didnt need all the other stuff that cost $$$$ :D:D
yeah man... well my exhaust ports are completely black. and the plugs looked decent the last time i checked. havent checked recently...

lol yeah ur right that would kinda suck. but o well. whats done is done.

just got back from the test drive. car pulls harder and doesnt stop at 5k anymore lol. looks like im ready for some dyno time:)

the carb is way off too. the accelerator pump shot is so small, but i got the pump cam kit and the vacuum secondary spring kit to give to the dyno place. they have the jets and power valves there. the only problem now is my gas gauge...it reads full. im getting voltage thru the wires. around 8 volts. trying to figure out what the heck is going on with that now...

Not sure on the fuel guage - Did you unhook the connector for it in the trunk by mistake? Should be in or around the trunk latch

How many RPM's does it pull now?

i checked those connections and they are hooked up. i have to sand that ground down more i guess...

well my tv cable was pretty loose so it shifted early at 6200 rpm. i just fabbed up a bracket for it so it is really taut now. should pull higher than that now no problem.

PS: my tach doesnt flutter around anymore. it reads the rpms good.
