Is There Anything to Do In IOWA ???
Ha ha, you're kidding right?:D No offense to our fellow TC'ers from Iowa. There's some cool placed in IA, but not where you're going.

I didn't know where Doon was so I Googled it, and it looks like it is the typical 500 person farm town for that area of the country. Sioux Falls, SD looks to be pretty close, that's probably going to be your best bet for finding something to do. The last time I was in that area (Sioux Falls/Brookings) was 15 or so years ago, so I can't help out too much.

I don't think that area washed too bad, so you can go watch the crops get cut :D Or their is always the fun of racing around on the dirt roads, or the chew spittin' contests;)

I have been through that area a few times, not much to do or look at that I recall, seemed pretty flat and miles of corn.

You might try checking out this website. http://www.traveliowa.com/travelapp/aec/thingstodo.asp?strNav=travelnav.html

Depending on when you're in Iowa, the Salisbury Auto Classic might be something to consider checking out (have to drive to Des Moines for it). http://www.salisburyhouse.org/automobile_classic/2008_salisbury_automobile_classic.php

Other Iowa car shows in Sept http://www.hubcapcafe.com/calendar/iowa.htm#September-2

Honestly, there is a lot more to do in central Iowa than NW Iowa...good luck!

Some more suggestions in central Iowa. The Knoxville Raceway, home of the Knoxville Nationals Sprint Car Races http://www.knoxvilleraceway.com/

The Iowa Speedway (it just hosted an IRL race last weekend). http://www.iowaspeedway.com/

I lived in Bettendorf Iowa for 6 months for work. When I got the assignment, I wwasn't thrilled AT ALL after being in Florida and the shores of North Carolina for a year and 1/2.
Got there in January. Man it was cold! When I left in July, I took with me many good memories and friends. I have learned over the years that some of the best places to be, are where people are just themselves and don't need too much to have a good time. Every nook and cranny of this world has special things to discover, even Iowa.

Hey! bet you didn't know you can actually ski downhill in Iowa! Enjoy the people as they some of the finest folks I've ever had the pleasure to know.

You are about an hour from the Lakes Region of Lake Okaboji & Spirit Lake. Lots of stuff to do around there (alot of central Iowans own huge vacation homes there;)) Try Arnolds Park, http://www.arnoldspark.com/an old time amusemant park, with sailing, parasailing, dinner cruise type paddle wheeler. Hey, it's no Disney World, but enough to do for a couple of days. My sister and her kids from Houston, TX wants us to take them there when they come up in August!

Doon, Iowa, ouch what a boring place. I lived up in that area for a year, it was mind numbing.

Your best bet is up in Souix Falls and the Iowa great lakes. Might find a few things down around Cherokee. Also look into storm lake, its a small college town.
Theres a ice cream plant in LeMars you could do a tour. There are a few small dirt tracks up in that area.

Lived in Iowa for 25 years and couldnt wait to leave, now after 4 yrs am looking to go back.
