What I'm trying to locate to buy are; the frame studs that are installed into the frame to fasten the upper arm in place. also the correct name for these studs if I'm not using the correct verbiage to describe them.

Thanks

Upper a-arm shaft bolts. What year? 1964 -1967 used fine thread and 68 - later used course thread. The course thread are GM part number 381909 and can be purchased at a lot of places, including your GM dealer, (just Google the number) and can be substituted for fine thread. I found the fine thread at Corvette Central part number 572124.

I think he is talking about these

http://www.ss396.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=chevellecamino&Product_Code=BPX-0918

I just used 7/16 Fine thread with lock nuts. Access was not a problem on either side of the mount.

Edit - Yes what above guy said.
What your showing me is what I have. I was hoping to find the gm original style that have splines at the shank end and are installed with a hammer, achieving rap in tight fit so as not to turn.

The ones in the link at SS396 do have the splines. They also have the hex heads so you can put a wrench on them. just like the originals.

My bad it's a 66 chevelle. Thankyou for the course thread part number. I'll go over to the Chevy dealer, 2mii down the road, and see if he can get me a set of 4.

I guess my first choice would be the fine thread version. Life is funny, 4-5 weeks ago I ordered a bunch of misc parts and I think it was from Corvette Central.

Me too; I ordered stuff from CC recently and now I need those same fine spline bolts for my 66. I hate to spend the $9.xx shipping to just get the $20.00 parts. Guess I'll have to look to see if there is anything else I really need to make the shipping worth while.

Hmm... so much for being a trained observer. Only after looking at them again can I say it does look like they have the splines.

Great got several options now...... thanks

Those are my same feelings, the shipping is just crazy today. So glad this is my last car I'm gonna restore. Just gonna keep what I got, maintain them and drive them.

Take care

Both of my 65's and a spare 65 El Camino Frame all have 7/16"-14x2.125" (yes, coarse thread) splined bolts. GM p/n 381909 is the number I have and they are 7/16"-14 also, packaged ten to a box. I do have a box of these and they are coarse fwiw.

My 66 AIM lists 381909 as the correct #. AMK list 381909 as 7/16-14x2 1/4 5/8AF, which is a coarse thread UNC. I thought the originals I removed were coarse thread. I know the replacements are coarse thread that I got from ANK.

So now I am confused, Bruce are you saying that the 381909 that was in my 66 AIM was a fine thread and gm made it into a coarse thread without changing the part number?

Just dug out my original with the RSB grade 8 markings visible, They are definitely coarse thread.

Corvette may have used fine thread in 64-67; but I think 66 chevelles used coarse thread.

I made a mistake by assuming the information I came across for Corvette was the same for Chevelle. Sorry. I checked the bolts on my 66 this morning and they are coarse thread, also.

Gm part number 381909 is coarse thread, and is the correct application part for the 66 Chevelles. If I understand this correctly the fine thread version from Corvette Central then may be a Corvette thing. ?
