what is the minimum scr you would recommend for a 402A7.

468
4.00 stroke
6.385 rod length
srp 26cc domes
781's 118cc 2.19/1.72
performer rpm/950hp

with zero deck/.039 4.370 head gasket i get 10.413 scr
per pat kelleys program my dcr is 8.1179 w/the 402A7

the 402A3 dcr is 8.5029

i currently have a 3200 stall(3800 flash) and 3.73 gears

i would really like to run the A7 but wanted to get your opinion!!

2000-2500 street miles a year and once a month to the track.

i don't care about idle quality(i would like a rough idle) and i have manual disks. i just don't want it to be a stone on the bottem end.

i already have lunati 73124 springs installed. it's between these two cams. please help!!

ps- i know it needs to be checked anyway, but do you forsee any p/v clearance issues w/ either cam.

thanks,
mike

Mike,

A number of the 402A7s have gone over 100,000 miles on the street, generally taking about 10 years to do so. With a 3200+ stall converter and a 3.73 rear, you should be able to hook it up on the bottom-end. I know 3000 SS converters and 3.90 gears are just fine with this one, it has lots of snort down low.
Make sure you have 1/2" #8 fuel line from the tank to the carb, a good Carter or Holley high-volume mech pump works just fine. You will be making in excess of 575 BHP about 6200, and a whole lot of torque. Those cam masters were the most popular SBC and BBC solids I ever had. They make the power, and are the standard by which I judge my later designs.

Mike,

SCR? The very 1st 288/296F10 ever ran made 561 BHP about 6400 in a 9.2:1 468, and on a very conservative dyno, to boot. I generally add 50-60 BHP to equal some of those 'West Coast" dynos.....
I am not sure where my copy of the dyno curve is---It's about 20 years old---but that cam pulled the dyno at 2500...
