turn signals no longer working

First of all let me say that I basically know nothing about electrical. :confused: Just the very basics.
The problem is that when I put on my turn signals,the turn signals don't work. I don't know if it's a short, or a blown fuse or what? Can anyone give me some direction toward diagnosing the problem? I tried to trace the wires down, but I can't really tell where they go.

It's a 71' malibu. I'd appreciate any advice. I apologize for not being able to give more details.

I had the same problem with mine,finally figured out I had smashed the flasher when messing with my column. I thought this odd and didn't think to check it because they didn't come on at all.
New flasher and they're good as new!! Mike
