My son ('92 Chevy Silerado) read about this "Turbonator" that you install in your air intake line that is supposed to increase your performance by as much as 20 hp and 24% gas milage. It is just some device that spins the air for supposedly better mix and combustion. I know its not for our Chevelles, but has anyone heard of this thing?

I have never heard anyone say it worked, but I have heard several people say it was the worst $50 they ever spent. :D

if you get that, you might as well get the magnet that clamps to your fuel line, and that ebay electric "blower" that installs in the intake tract.
those 3 things should about double the HP output of a 92 Silverado, and get it up near 75 mpg...

Snake oil.

I think it should be illegal to sell stuff like that misleading people with claims of "Up to 20% more mpg".
(Small print: "Your results may vary")

They know damn well the thing won't do anything other than lighten to purchasers wallet.

What did P.T. Barnum say ? "Sucker born every minute"

I prefer "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is".

If 50 cents worth of sheet metal created a "Turbo effect, increasing mileage by up to 20%" don't you think the auto makers would've done it already?

No, there's a conspiracy between auto-makers and the oil companies, which is why they won't release the engine that runs on air that was developed by some scientist in Guatemala ;) :D

We used to call those things "Air restrictors"

And everyone knows that the engine that runs on air was developed in Poland, but the prototype was destroyed in a fire shortly after the oil companies refused to buy the technology.

Reminds me of the 100 mpg carburetor... I think I saw Sam Memmolo from "Shadetree Mechanic" and then "Crank and Chrome" and lately "Two Guys Garage" endorsing that metal crap thing. Too bad he sold out. I liked him.

Doesn't the two guys garage have there own Dyno in thier shop? I would be interesting to see them do a before and after test. And while theyre at it test all those neat 2-3-4 prong spark plugs. Jim

The problem is, any product that's supposed to help atomize fuel is absolutely useless in a direct port injected engine, where the fuel is injected on top of the intake valve.

However, I tossed one of those "turbinator" plates to a friend a few years back, for him to put on his '68 FLH, 88" pan/shovel with an S&S carb. He swore it was the best thing he'd ever put on the bike. It started quicker (important when it's a kick-only bike. ;) ), it idled smoother, and had more seat of the pants torque on the bottom end. It sandwiched in between the carb and the intake, and had small vanes that swirled the fuel/air mixture.
