i got this transmission from a guy who raced and it was a reverse manual valve body shift . a friend of mine took it to someone he knows at a local chevy dealer who works on trannys on the side so it could be converted back to a manual / auto forward pattern. well the problem is the transmission wont shift on its own or manually it stays in drive always . i get reverse and drive and thats it. any ideas on the problem im stumped and the guy who worked on the tranny no longer works at the dealer . so i need to figure this out . thanks

Do you mean reverse and first works? Valve body issue possibly (a spool valve sticking or something sticking it/metal)

no i mean park works reverse works and 3rd gear wich is drive . no first gear no second gear , just drive and reverse

So the car starts moving forward but is in drive right off the bat? Or is it that when you put the gear selector in 1 or 2 it wont move?

when i put it in gear and drive down the road it never shifts and its way way obvious that its in drive cause at 55 im taching 3500 wich was always normal and i can move the shifter and it wont go into second or first . and it all worked before the reverse valve body came out . and i have reverse also no first no second cant down shift it eaither and if i put it in first i can drive all day and its still in drive ????????//

Did the guy change the valve body? I'd try to find out what brand vb was used for the reverse pattern, and see if it's still in there. Maybe the guy thought he could do a couple of tweaks, but missed something else that's resulting in your problem. I put in a forward pattern manual vb kit into my existing vb on a th350 years ago. If I remember right, I had to drill a couple of holes which would make it kinda impossible to reverse engineer without plugging them up. And without original instructions, about the only way I could do this would be to change the vb for a stock one again.
