My shift lever is about a foot long, which gives a super long shifter throw. The Tremec is so light, why don't I just shorten the lever and get quicker shifts? Cutting it in half would give half the throw, but twice the effort. Twice times about nothing is manageable on lever force. How long of a stick do they use on the OEM Tremecs?

I was under the impression it was just a matter of ergonomics. We sit so much higher in our cars than the modern cars that come with these trannys. If you would be comfortable with the reduced height of the lever get the saw out!

Huh, I didn't think of that. I am 5'7" and have my seat pretty close up, and did my Tremec top load with the shifter in the rear position so it's pretty close for my set up. My ergs are pretty good.

The lever I have was extra long, I cut the bottom part off with the holes and teeth, and welded the other part on overlapped. When it bolts on the transmission stub, since it's overlapped, the lever ends up directly above the nub and centered nicely in the console rectangle. I just have to grind the welds off, shorten it, and weld it on again.

I got a Hurst shifter for my T56. With 2 allen-head bolts I can swap shifter arms in a couple minutes. Why not have 2 (or more) shifter handles? I like the looks of the longer, curved shifter with a T-handle, but love the performance and feel of the short, straight shifter with a round knob. You really can have it all with a T56! Hurst shifter works great and feels right to me.
