I'm soon to be replacing a 700r4 with a th400..(long story),and was wondering what pan to put on the th400. I had the stock depth pan on the 700r4,and never had a problem with clearance. I've searched on the web for pan dimensions,and haven't had any luck.Just curious if I can even put a deeper pan on,maybe cast aluminum,maybe just a th400 truck pan,I don't know.The Vette sits pretty low,so I'd like to compare some pan depths before I buy one that is too deep.

the deep pan is about 2inches deeper and there are some aftermarket alum. pans that are in between.just remember when you go to a deep pan the filter has to be extended also. greg

I just put a B&M Transpak in my 400, and swapped the old stock pan for a truck pan. That extra 2" of pan works out to about an extra 2 litres of fluid. The clearance wasn't an issue for me, however.

On my Th350, I had a deep pan and a spacer to drop the filter down. As mentioned, if you don't have this, you don't get the "safety" of extra fluid volume. But you do get the benefit of extra fluid volume. Plus, aluminum deep fans are finned for cooling.

On my current Th700, there isn't a spacer, and can't be because of the design. But I'm told there is a truck version of the filter that extends lower.
