Some months back, I was curious about some things I’ve read online and ran some John Deer Hygard Standard Viscosity in my th350 just to see how it would effect my stall and converter feel at part throttle. It definitely tightened things up. For reference, this was going from a 7.1 to a 9.4.

After that I switched back to standard valvoline ATF. Modern cars often run ultra low viscosities to help economy. Just like how they often call for 0w20 engine oils.

I went down the rabbit hole and looked up a ton of different ATF viscosities off of each companies web sites and compiled it into a list. I’m not going to tell anyone to run thinner or thicker trans fluid so take it for what it’s worth. I’ve never seen a list like this so I thought I’d share it with team chevelle. Hope it helps someone somewhere.

*Of note: I only listed the viscosities for 100*C cSt because that’s closer to operating temperature and would be a more accurate indication of how the fluid would act in a street car.

I figured I’d bump this and see if anyone else has any input of personal experiences of running different ATF.

Going from a 7.1 to 9.4 was very noticeable. Going the other way to something in the 5s would probably be noticeable too. Or even more so, one of the ULV fluids in the 4s.

That's a cool list, thanks for doing that. Any chance you could post a version sorted by viscosity (low to high?)
If that’s what the people want, I could probably get around to it. Also if anyone has a fluid not listed that they like, it can be added.
