Hi all.. Hoping to get a little info on a possible trade. i have a 69 malibu coupe, 307/pg. Stock from an old guy. Was going to build it into a big block car but was presented with a trade, 69 nomad wagon.427/th400 12bolt,
What is the comparison in general I should use to decide value of each and if its a fair trade or if some cash should accompany the wagon.
Wagon asking price 15k. Nice shape 427/400 12 bolt. Great interior, body seems great as well.
My coupe a gold with nearly new black vinyl top, a/c car. Nice black bench interior column shift. Body good some filler may be present but overall very solid. Never started car because I was not intending to keep the 307. Glas is out to asses slight leak. Channels had some surface rust but glass guy said fine to clean it up and put the glass in.

That being said, in general what kind of $$ would the coupe be worth and am i getting a fair deal for a 15k wagon...

thanks for any insight, I havent bought any old cars for about 25 years and things changed a lot as values are concerned.

thanks!

Pics of exterior, interior, engine bay and under the cars would get you better info

Well as others have said pics would help but from your description id say their value is pretty even with a slight edge to the coupe only because they appeal to a larger group but the wagon can be a very desired car as well. Some parts on the wagon may be a little harder to get if needed such as glass, body panels and trim but if those on the wagon are good then no worries.

I agree a wagon would be cool but not at the expense of losing my coupe. Have you answered some of these questions for yourself: would you be happy with the wagon in the long run? What’s driving you towards trading - a more finished car? How concerned are you with the ultimate value of each car? As most have pointed out the coupe ultimately would be worth more.

again, pictures of each would help us give you values.

if you picked up the coupe cheap enough and make the trade, you'll be ahead of the game if you want a that drivetrain in a muscle car. you can save yourself a lot of time and money and have a turn key ride ready to go today. When you decide to sell it, you may have a hard time getting that much out of a wagon, you'll hear that the car is worth X dollars but very few people will actually be willing to break out thier wallets and buy it.
if you dont mind having a peice of garage art while you get a motor, trans, rearend found, plus the additional parts and cost. your 2 door will find more buyers when you decide to sell, but your probably have more into the car than you'll get out of it.
I personally prefer el caminos, when I have my 66 chevelle out, sometimes I think I'd love to trade it for another but I know how hard it is to find a buyer for a elco so I just keep the coupe. jim

See if you can buy the wagon outright cheaper, and keep the coupe. Next, sell the coupe for more moolah than you paid for the wagon. I'll turn youse guys into used car dealers yet. 💰 💰

Thanks JIm... Its the sourcing parts and time/money... all my 'car guy' friends are few and far between and hard to nail down for project assistance... paying a resto place is way outta my comfort zone/budget!... I am wanting a big block again... I had a 69 ss396 30 years ago... want that again... and I always love a wagon... so best of both worlds! I want a driver...not a show car.. thanksfor the insight!. I dont want to be buying / selling in hopes of making money... I just want the CAR!

I got the coupe because it was the nearest one I could find and sold off 2 other 'great buys' I accumulated to finance it... so no real big money outlay... So trading up to something I want and can drive as is... may be a good deal no matter what... I just done want to be the chump who gives a higher value unit to a guy who is gonna walk away telling everyone what a steal he arranged! I have been looking for a non $20 - 60k chevelle for a few years now... this one came in about 10K... solid and original. So i jumped on it... Then reality... so I want a DRIVER I guess...

In your first post you say the glass is out of your car. Is it still out? You also said that you have never started the car because you weren’t intending to keep the 307. If your car runs and drives and has the glass back in, I would want 5k to boot plus the wagon. But this is a rough guess based on limited pictures.

Yea its got sit-itis... I just have limited time and resources... Glass is out... yet to get around to starting it up! bass-ackwards but noone here complaining about my methods...its at the back of the driveway. I was leaning toward wanting a bit of cash on top... just because of all who have mentioned the value/desirabilty of a coupe vs a wagon... Ill have to feel it out..yet to get up to see the wagon.. or him to see the coupe...
All up in the air I will end up making a gut based decision probably... thanks for the insight!

If you do trade then some day want to sell, the coupe would bring more because more folks would rather have a coupe. (supply and demand)

I personally wouldn't trade my 69 for two wagons, (well maybe for three if they were in good shape.)
I'm in 100 percent agreement with this.
OP: if you LIKE the nomad and that's what YOU want and it's a fair enough trade as the 2 cars are today then get er done !
But no matter what you do to that station wagon Its never gonna be worth the dollar value of the coupe if the coupe got worked too. Eg . Ss clone .
For me personally there wouldn't even be a question but hey everybody likes a different kind of girl right ?? Lol

It's all relative . You are never the chump in the deal if you got what YOU wanted and really regardless of a book value. That's why in a certain sense these cars are priceless .
