Okay Gents, I bought a used TH400 and the guy I got it from did not know what the stall speed was (if any?). I was wondering- how do you tell TC's apart, one from another? There are some numbers stamped on it, but no brand name. Also, the one I had on my old tranny was smaller and a different color than the one on the tranny I have now? I appreciate any help.

Do you understand that EVERY torque converter has a stall speed; and that the stall speed is determined by the way the converter is made--but also by how much torque the engine has.

A converter that stalls at 2,500 rpm behind one engine may stall at 3,500 rpm behind a more powerful engine.

Well guys, I ordered a new B&M TC off of Summit. It has a 2400 stall rating. It's going behind a SBC 400, and I have no intentions of racing it, so it should do. BTW-Dave, I live in Spokane Valley. I messed up the pump and TC on my tranny by installing them on the engine without frst properly seating the TC in the pump (WON'T do that AGAIN). It was a costly mistake.........Thanks guys for the help!
