Thinking of buying one for the boat. Anyone have one yet? Read a lot of good things about them.

The Mercury and now defunct Evinrudes in that size range are rebranded Tohatsu. Maybe others are too. They seem to be the center of gravity on small outboards. Never had one myself, but would probably be hard pressed to find another option if I was in the market.

I bought a new 25hp Merc 3 or 4 years ago. It might be Tohatsu made, not sure. No problems, started and ran smooth. My only regret was not getting the power lift. The top end on newer outboards appear to be larger then the older stuff. I replaced a 30 year old 25hp Merc. So had some issues with pulling the new motor up without falling overboard. But that is my issue of getting older (and weaker), nothing to do with the motor. Sold it this year and downsizing to a 9.9 and 12 foot tin boat but wouldnt hesitate to buy another Tohatsu. That is probably what a new 9.9 will be. Good Luck and Happy boating.
