Nice 67 impalas guys, my second car was a 67 impala. I junked it out because the frame was rusted out on the drivers side below where the high beam switch was. That was around 1974.

Now, next question: Should I ditch the crappy old Z28 SS rims for some 22" rims? What do you guys think? 😀
I actually liked those rims on my '67. They have a decent backspace and allowed fat 275/60 rear meats. My only issue was runout at highway speeds. 22" will look silly. 18-19" look good, IMHO.

I have no issue with a stout small block versus a big block. I;d keep the BBC for DAS BOOT.

I was trying to see if I could stir up more controversy give the mild attacks on my op. I really like the z28 rims and will be using those. I really dislike 20+ inch rims on chevelles. That’s just me.

I like your style Inman! Rage on!

Of course, there is an economic reason to put the SBC in the Impala and the BBC in the Chevelle, strictly for resale. But I wouldnt.

I think 22 inch rims would make it look like a clown car. Anything over 17/18 inch rims looks ridiculous on these cars and IMO look best with 15 inch wheels. Newer cars look appropriate with bigger rims. I have a newer Mustang and the 19 inch rims look good but even that car would look odd with 22 inch wheels.
Pic of the rims already on the project. I did a lot backwards on this one: Rebuilt the engine first, got the rims looking great, etc. Then...put the body back on the chassis and started the detail bodywork.

This may seem trivial, but on my 67 a RR code car, I replaced the silver/blue SS centers with red/black, and it was odd how 3" of surface area changed the look of the car. I think the blue ones would look fine against that color of yours.

PS I had 275/60- BFG DRs mounted on those rims, which is a SQUEEZE on a 7" rim. Yet, folks were always looking in the rear wells to see if the car was back halved. Sorta cool.

Yeah, I have the silver / blue center caps for these. The midnight bronze look (technically I'm going to go with a modern GM color called Havana Metallic which is near but not exact and a little less "brown" I think) is near black in twilight and sparkly metallic "brownze" in direct sun. I've only seen a few cars with it.

The color on the car right now is a homemade (edit-home mixed) red oxide epoxy to match the original Arlington epoxy on the underbody. Here's a shot of the underbody when it was still on the rotisserie (and after spraying the wheel wells and rear underbody with schutz to match factory pattern and messy-ness).

I actually had the stock wheels widened from 7” to 8 1/4” on the inside to mount 275 BFGs. Eliminated a little of the side wall bulge.

GOT BULGE?! I 'm certain it didnt help the tread pattern.

You know its funny Brian, we have a local chain up here " Frey the Wheelman", and I know for a fact in the 60's/ 70's the Rochester branch did widen ALOT of rally rims.

Yet when I called the Buffalo store to see about widening the SS rims 20 years ago they said they no longer do it.
