I've been looking for a fun second classic. I'm getting really tired of looking at cars that all turn out to be overpriced/underdescribed pieces of trash. Anyone else have this problem?

Ummm. Here are a few words from the peanut gallery.

Hows about you get that '69 together before you start talk of getting another car. :D

To be honest I haven't really had that problem. I looked at a '70 Super Sport once. For what it was, and what parts I had to get it put back together it was very reasonably priced. And the '71 That has been dropped into my lap ,well of course not literally, is a very good deal. Complete, rust free, decent interior, two door coupe, with a 350 and automatic for $1500. Bucket seats, console.

So no, I don't have this problem of yours Andy. :D

As Kurt said, that would be a third, unless of course the Healey wouldn't be classified as "fun" :D

Lots of junk out there, and it isn't going to get any better with time either.

Honestly I would do the same thing as you, buy another good runner while the other is apart. I know myself well enought to know that if I didn't have a fun car to drive while the other is apart, i would end up rushing things, and it wouldn't end up good at all.

Or how about something that hasn't been caught in the Barrett-Jackson hysteria yet? Hemmings Classic Cars had an interesting article about "forgotten classics" a while ago, and some of the cars they listed are actually really cool. The cars they were talking about were early or mid-70's Buicks, Oldsmobiles, AMCs and other cars that don't have much collector value. Seems like you can pick up really nice cars in the $4,000-5,000 range. Could even be an investment, I'm sure that some of these will increase in price as the supply of affordable classics of the more popular models dries up.

I bet....
And do what I said. Andy has a wad of $$ to spend one something:yes: So I told him to either send his 69 or the Healey off to a shop to get it done for him, because he is always gone out of town for work.
Andy the least you could do is get someone to go ahead and get it through the paint and frame and engine cycle and you will be alot further ahead of the game.
You are going to burn yourself out with all the stuff you have going on.
Not burned out yet!

This is kind of fun so far. I think I would get burned out if I bought yet another basket case :)

You should have stopped and looked that triple-green '69 Malibu out on the corner by the show-field Saturday... was priced at $14,500 but if $12K could have bought, I think it would have been a good buy. Wish I would have written down the number. :clonk:

Exactly the reason I bought my '70, so I could take my time and focus on building the '66...

Of course, now I am dreaming more about what I want to do to the '70, so it'll be really nice BEFORE I start the '66... And of course, always looking for another project... Why Oh Why??? I barely have time and money for one, but have two and looking for a third...
