Think factory is 4 or 8* btdc. everyone nowadays uses 16 initial 36 total with a mild build or a variation thereof depending upon your particular build. 16 is always a good place to start though. JN
An easy way to set timing is to set the total timing at approximately 34-36 degree at around 3000 RPM,then let the initial timing be whatever it falls at.Remember to unhook the vacuum advance.Then you can play with it from there,modified big blocks like as much as 38+ degrees total timing.
