hello
one or two of my 350 hydraulic lifters tick upon start up. oil pressure seems high 70# when motor warms up the ticking goes away and oil pressure drops on idle to about 30# and increases with the rpms what do you think?
thanks

If that's all it does that's fine. The oil will run out of the lifters when shut down especially if shut down for several days. As long as it goes away after a short time of running and stays away, that's fine.

I have a Chevy that developed a lifter tick after sitting unused for a couple years. Just like yours, the tick would go away- sometimes- after it warmed up. Dumped some Seafoam in the crankcase and that fixed 'er right up.

I normally don't believe in additives of any kind and was skeptical that it would work, but the results proved me wrong- at least in that case.

For the couple bucks a can of Seafoam costs, it's worth a try.

If it was stuck lifter or it had dirt in it will usally tick all the time. But if it is a stuck lifter the Marvel mystery oil is the way to go as mentioned above.

If you try the Marvel and the tick is still there then try what i mentiion below.

When the lifter shuts up after the oil pressure is up or when it heats up thats usually valve/s that are out of adjustment either from when the cam was installed or over time as valvetrain had worn in some.

So re-adj the valves to approx 1/2 turn down from zero lash and i bet your sartup lifter tick/s will be gone.

Note,be watching for any valves that are not opening as far as others of the same type (int or ex) when adj the valves which would indicate a lobe/s going flat.
