Jeff, I'm on the west coast so it may be a bit different here. Good components, assuming cast crank and rods? With this being a used engine it won't fetch as well. I wouldn't be afraid to ask a couple of thousand for it but I think 1,500 to 1,800 is likely. Nice it's a 454, that will work better for a good price. It's a pretty tough market right now for BBC's. Check out CList for local sales comparables. Check the dates to see how long the ads have been posted. That will give you some ideal of what's going for what price. If you need to move it fast be realistic and price accordingly. Good Luck!

1800-2 grand around here is pretty realistic for what your listing, but its a big plus if you can show it runs.

Those are closed chamber heads, pretty small cc chambers, around 100 I think. Are you sure about the compression in a 454 with a flat top?

Anyway, the resale value of a used engine does not reflect the amount you would have in it. Most of the time 25 to 30 cents on the dollar is about all you can expect. Maybe.

I had a real nice Rat in my Malibu before I replaced it with my 540. An old Lunati 1/8 stroker with matching rods, Kieth Black Pistons, Edlebrock heads, Comp Cams Hyd Roller, 2 bolt block with 4 bolt caps, etc. It made an honest 500+ HP, idled smooth as glass, was a great street engine and ran great when I took it out.

I finally gave it away for $1700. That is all I could get, and that included the carb, Edlebrock Water Pump, and distributor.

Jackie, They're actually 108cc chambers, the piston has a 10.5 cc dome and it's in the hole .010.

Chris, it is still in the car. (which, by the way, is where it's going to stay if that's all it will bring)

Jeff,I think asking $3,000-3200 with a "come hear it run" in the description is a safe bet.
Heck,a roller cam swap alone is every bit of a $1000 these days...$1500-1800 is give away for a complete, strong running roller cam 454 with 7,000 miles
East coast people pay more for this stuff ;)

I;m at $3k plus all day. Sounds like a good turn key 500 horse engine that would cost $4500 to duplicate.
exactly.
I know someone that recently sold a f/t solid cammed 468 with 990 heads, complete intake to pan,low miles for $3200 out on Long Island..same deal,"come hear it run"..and the buyer got to go for a ride too before it was removed..that sealed the deal :)

3000.00 plus for a used cast crank, rod and piston BBC w/ 7000mi? As I mentioned I like the top end components. Don't think anyone meant to "lowball" just being honest and giving input. As for Jackie's post, my experience is more like his. ( I know I read the whole post and sure he did too). 5 years ago things were different. I think I would also like to note Jackie's input is usually spot on. Just don't care for the disrespectful terms tossed around. To the original OP, I hope the best for you whatever you decide to do. In the end market dictates.

What it should be worth and what you can get someone to pay usually are 2 different numbers.
x2 ^^^ exactly. If you want to move it fast it's gotta be priced right. Otherwise join the long list of stale craigslist ads. There are lots of em.

Not to be a downer, but I wouldn't pay more than 1500 bucks for that...at most...if I could hear it run and it checks out.

How on earth can people suggest three grand when you can buy a brand new VortecPro motor for 5400 bucks....that makes almost 600 HP.....and you know what you're getting...and has a warranty?

IHMO....three grand is drunken sailor money.
