So they're starting a new build on Muscle Car, it's a 1970 Camaro that they're going to build into an RS SS clone.

I'm just curious, how many people here prefer the 1970-1981 F-body to the 67-68 or 69?

Would it cost roughly the same amount to restore a 1st Gen vs. 2nd Gen?
Assuming the "core" price of the car costed the same, I know that the first gen is a lot more sought after so I know that you'd probably be in for a few extra bucks initially, but once you had the car are the parts a comparable price?

the expensive part on the 70-73 is the RS nose assy, If you already have it, its probably comprable to restoring either car, but to change a std bumper camaro to a RS camaro, you need to change the upper and lower header panel. all the bracketry to mount the grille, and urathane nose etc.
Personally I perfer the std front end, years back I had a chance to get the whole rs front clip off a camaro but decided to keep my car with the regular bumper. jim

Camaro #1 was a 73 Z28-LT-RS.
#2 1970 1/2 Z28 with the standard front fascia.
#3 1968 with a 383 and turbo 400.
I wish I had never gotten rid of #1. It was a great car and ran like a scalded dog once I put an LT-1 in it.

My favorite Camaro is the 70-73 with the RS nose, preferably with the Z28 package if we're talking restored to factory condidtion. Or with a heavily modified drivetrain that LOOKS like a stock SBC or BBC camaro.

That said, I'll take any 67-69 over any 74-81

A quick google search revealed that I'd have the same year range preferences in Firechickens also.

As for street driven vehicles I'd also rather have any 87-02 V8 Firebird and 87-92 V8 Camaro over any 74-81 F-body.

People typically cant stand green colors but I think this car is going to look sharp when they get that lime green paint and black stripes on it. Intresting they chose the saddle color for the interior.

Still partial to my old '78 Type LT with T-tops. It was a rust bucket but it was still cool to me.

The only 2nd gen Camaros I don't like are the middle years with the big heavy bumpers.

I like the 2nd gen Camaros with the round tail lights and tall spoiler. I had one I put a big block in back in the day. It was an LT model, a 73 with a 72 grill. Sold it before I got around to putting a bumper on it.

Oh, sorry man, I hate to tell you but Chevy hit it's peak in 1967...
Chevelle, Corvette, Camaro, C10 pickup, Nova, hands down!
(Impala was in 1965 though)

1967 was the perfect storm, 3 amazing things happened in 67!

Chevy was rockin! Canada turned 100!! and the biggest one of all...

The Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup (also the last time they did that... I hate being a Leaf fan...)

The #1 choice in a Camaro would have to be a '67 overall for lots of sound reasons.

Next, the 70 1/2 Z-28 with the REAL/ORIGINAL 350/370 LT-1. Love the non-high back buckets, and the non-RS nose.

Then, the 71, 72 & 73 were semi-O.K., followed by the comeback-kid, the quick-again LS-1 1998 Z-28.

The current one can be applauded for power, but it's a huge heavy swollen bloat-mobile.

I've had a 68 camaro since 1974 and like the first gen best. The 70's and up drive much better IMHO. Handle great! I don't like the 2 gen from the interior though. They have a good gauge cluster but the hood is boring, the back seats seem tighter and no back windows. I like the tall spoilers and the RS nose though. What I really want is a 70-73 T/A!!
