WARNING: The following thread contains graphic images of Ark68SS nekkid from the waist up. Please send the children and spouses from the room!!:D

So anyway, I'm at the end point of this pain med cycle, and while I'm still moderately coherent, I decided to post this to let ya'll know what's happenin' and to show some pics in the hope that you'll remember what I looked like before you pop the cap on a radiator. Buzzbomb gave some good advice, I wish I had followed it. http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=291383&page=5

I came home on Wednesday afternoon, and I'm doing OK. We are having to debride the skin on my skull (basically, scrubbing the dead skin off with soap and water and towels) and that hurts like hell, but we're getting almost all of the yukky stuff removed. I'll be going back to the burn care center next Thursday if I don't have any problems, and they'll assess my condition then. Thanks to all for the calls, prayers and support, until you've been in a situation like this, you'll never fully understand how much that means.
So, now--on to the pics!!:hurray: The first ones were taken about 45 minutes after the accident Sunday in the ER at Morrillton, AR, the others at my home yesterday afternoon.
I'm gonna head home for another Oxycodone.:boring: I'll probably be back tomorrow sometime.

Bill, I see your typing skills are a little better. It's good to see you up and around a bit. Actually you look pretty bad. Just kidding. It looks like your on your way back. No infections so far?

This is something we will all think of when we're tempted to remove that cap when it's hot. At least some good will come from all this agony your being put through. Keep the updates coming.

Bill - I'm sorry to see and hear about your accident. I've been there myself so I can relate to a certain degree (no pun intended!). I had a radiator cap blow off back in the 80's when my '80 Gran Prix overheated and I had my head under the hood when she went. Luckily I had a garden hose running on the ground next to my feet and the hospital was only 2 blocks away.

My brother was in the burn unit for a motorcycle accident (road rash is treated much the same as a burn). I remember when they had to debride all of his wounds. 'nough said on that topic...

Take care of yourself and get well soon!

Bill, I just wanted to share my story w/ you and everyone as well. I was about 12 or 13 whatever age it is when going into the 7th grade and this exact same thing happened to me. My mother owned a POS Cadillac and was in the process of selling it. Some guy had brought his mechanic to take a look at the car and take it for a test drive. Before they took off. the mechanic checked the motors fluids and so forth. Apparently he didn't close the radiator cap all the way and when they returned from the test drive the car had overheated. I was a bit curious and as I walked up to the car the lid exploded off of the radiator just in time to burn my entire left side of my face, arm and head.

The temp was so hot it didn't leave red marks as I can see from your 1st pictures. It completely burned the skin right off my body. It was a blank white color everywhere the anifreeze hit. The buyer and mechanic were in so much shock they had jumped in their car and sped off.

So we rushed to the emergency room, only to have them just give me a pain medication. From there I was on bacitration ointment and in the hospital for 3 days. The swelling and smell of burnt flesh was unbearable for me. With about 2 months of just constant ointment treatment I completely healed with only a tiny scar on my left shoulder. Luckily I shut my eyes, and turned my head when it had happened otherwise I would of been blinded almost instantly.

You are right though about having that support there in times like this! I escaped with 2nd degree burns and a 3rd degree on my left ear. I was fortunate enough to not have to have a skin graph or any kind of skin discoloration.

I pray for your a quick recovery and any questions are welcome.

I got to tell ya Bill, You looked a tad bit better when we talking at the Mid-America Regionals. :D

Glad your on the way to recovery. Burns suck big time. I lost the skin on my left arm, and a little on my neck and side of my face when I was 19 due to a flash gasoline fire. I had a little taste of what your going through.

Glad your home and doing better, get well soon!

Good to hear from you Bill. Keep up the good attitude. With a little time and support from your family and friends you'll be back in the groove. Those pain meds sure help a lot too I bet. See you at CB '10.
