I put on my new Moroso solid engine mounts and set the engine without the transmission in the engine bay. I just want to make sure the new oil pan, motor mounts etc.. was going to clear and line up without any issues. What was weird is the front end hardly came down at all. Usually when you set the engine in there my front end drops down to wear the headers just clear the ground.

The only changes I did was change the front drums to discs. I measured the new spindle and it is the same length as my old spindle. Not sure why the front end didn't drop much. I realize that I will be adding other components such as radiator, carb, trans, etc.. but surely that isn't enough weight to make a difference. The only other change is replacing my steel front bumper for a new fiberglass bumper. Surely that weight savings isn't what caused this.

Any ideas? Or is it just a matter of getting the rest of the stuff in the engine bay area? I definitely don't want the front end sitting up. :noway:

Could it be that the alignment and suspension is bound up from being unloaded to loaded. Maybe moving and bouncing will let it settle.

Do you have rubber bushings in the front suspension and did you torque them down all the way while working on it before letting them get a loaded on them?

I did not see...did you replace the front springs?

What spring you have and shocks you have up front? With my santhuffs it came down right away. I have the front clip off mine right now doors also and I'm still only about 2-2.5" off the stops. I wouldn't worry about it much until you get it all in.

Okay thank for the replies...I was hoping it would settle. I do have Santhuff front springs but I had them in before. I changed from front drum to disc and steel bumper to fiberglass and lighter brackets. I also did some minor weight savings stuff. I figured my front end is about a 100 lbs lighter so.....I figured it should of settled easier

100 off the nose is a lot Del, those springs are pretty sensitive, you may have to make some adjustment....

What difference would drum to disk make? That is unsprung weight. You would be surprised how much the EXTRAS that you haven't put in yet weigh. Make sure the suspension isn't bolted tight yet, and when you are done putting it all back together tighten everything.

I think you answered your own question. I wouldnt worry about it until you get everything in the car. Yes taking 100Lbs off the front can and will make a difference.

You worry too much;) Everything will be fine and your front end is going to the sky.:hurray:

Tranny isn't in the car. My entire front suspension is loose. I didn't plan on tightening it up any. Hopefully my convertor is here the next couple days and I can get everything in the car. We are working on my guage panel wiring tonight. Kevin is probably correct. Worrying too much. It sat just a tad low anyways so maybe it will actually sit more level now. I just hope it doesn't point up like it is right now.

Brakes wont affect ride height, but the transmission and converter and fluids will add alot of weight. When I sit in the drivers seat my weight goes 50/50 front/rear.
Good point Bob. No trans. The fluid for the trans, radiator, plus headers, carb, alternator, etc.. Yeah it will come down....
