What do you guys think? I am no expert but I would think it would have the gills on the front fenders and the big block hood.

I told myself no more Impalas after the 64 409 car.... but I am really down with this car. Ash gold rocks!

Some other observations is the lack of smog equipment, since all 4 speed chevelles in 68 had it, I would also assume this should as well. Also interesting there is a build sheet.

I was 8 years old
I seem to recall no gills on the 68 SS my parents bought new.
I was a 427 SS Impala---no gills---no 427 SS hood
4-spd console car

BUT

The little plastic Bowtie emblem in the front of the car should be RED
only the 427 SS cars got the red emblem.

A person that graduated a couple of years before me had it when I graduated.
He might still have it!

Z24 = SS427 equipment included black painted vertical grille bars, bright metal front fender ornaments, special domed hood, and SS427 ornamentation on the grille and rear deck lid for the exterior. On the interior, the package included SS427 ornamentation on the steering wheel and just above the glovebox. For the engine, chrome on rocker arm covers, air cleaner and oil filler.

ANd just where on that build list does it show an optional 427 was included?
I see, SS, I don't see an engine added, and strangely enough a 4 speed is not on the list either?

Z03=Impala SS equipment included bucket seats, center console, and special Super Sport upholstery and door panels for the interior. For the the exterior there were special Super Sport wheel covers and ornamentation on the grille and rear deck lid

Z03 did not include a 427 OR a 4 speed. Something bogus in Denmark here.

1. What does it list for an engine and transmission? 2. I wouldn't put a picture on Ebay of a build sheet to car car that is not original and trying to pass it off as original. That's asking for trouble. i don't think anyone would do that.

Not versed on Impala build sheets but doesn't block #27 show IH L36? IH is a correct suffix code for a 427 and L36 is the correct RPO. The next block, #28, is the transmission code showing what appears to be WO4 which would indentify a 4-speed. Maybe that's the way Wilmington coded their build sheets. It's surprising how different plants coded their build sheets with varying codes for the same items.

Very nice car. Both the seller, and Dale are correct. The 427 was available in the super sport without ordering the "SS427" package. Buildsheet is legit as well.

As Depley alluded to earlier,

There was the "Impala SS" with a 427 engine (this car), and the "SS 427"... Separate car (separate model).

The "SS427" model had the "gills" and the "domed hood" (special emblems in 1968?), and AFAIK, the "SS427" did NOT include ANY "Impala" emblems on the car...

The "Impala SS", with any available engine (even BB 396s and 427s) did NOT include the special hood or fenders, and I think the emblems read "Impala SS"...

Awesome car!

Check out the picture of the trunk with the spare tire all the way towards the back seat. Would hate to blow a tire & have to crawl all the way back there on that trunk floor!

I have a '68 Caprice and a more than passing interest in these big cars. There have been no documented cars with e red bowtie on theh header, nor are two different ones shown in the assy manual. I know the red ones are available for sale, but I don'y knwo why or what they were meant to fit. The car pictured is a fine piece.

If you can't find a motel room you could always camp out in it. Reminds me of the 59/60 full size trunks. ;)
