Alright already! The 33 images of my '65 Malibu wagon are up. You all needed something fresh to deride, maybe something to laugh about or at least a new post to the "Wagons" forum. Well, here they are. The handsome young lad with the wagon is not me but my upholsterer. He is better looking than I, hence, no images of me. A few of the images are for perspective vendors to view. I apologize for those in advance...

Looks nice...

Who did the upholstery?
Upholstery was done by Ross Gomez (pictured) A & A Top & Trim, 2881 Fruitridge Rd., Sacramento (916) 452-3665. It's located within R & R Auto. R & R is a fine mechanical shop that works on oldies (definitely worth checking out). Contrary to estimates from several body shops, R & R was able to change-out both bottom front door hinges without removing the fenders. Ross cut the carpeting off-the-roll and bound it by machine in his shop. Great work!! Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Well, Jim, I've been admiring the photos of your wagon all summer. Nice to hear from you. So far the updating is mostly cosmetic.
exterior body and paint
painted grill "SS" style
original AM radio refurbished
4 x 10 speaker repapered
and replaced the following:
tail gate lettering, antennae, corroded rear bumper,
"funky" exhaust tip, exterior door handles
interior arm rest bases and pads
glove box interior, glove box trim, dash bezel
carpeting. headlining and windlacing
dome light assembly, dash pad
int. and ext. rear view mirrors

The car has only 133,000 miles. My aunt had owned it from 1968 to July 2005. She kept ALL the paperwork from 1972 to date. I still have some minor work to do on this baby. I'm having a blast driving it around and cranking heads.

TC member Joe Pelonio is making a customized and engraved cup holder for the tranny hump next week. Thank you for the compliments!

Alan,

Last night on "Chop Cut Rebuild" they were working on a '65 Chevelle wagon.
Changed the tailgate to open normally but also sideways like an SUV. Still
a real mess though, they have a long way to go on it.

I would love to see these pics, but it just gives an error message when I go to page.
I tried the link again this morning and it quickly took me to the pics. Don't know why you're unable to connect...

You know, back in the day, my neighbors had a '68 Plymouth Satellite 9-seat wagon with that dual-action tailgate (opened like a door if you wanted to sit in the rear-facing third row). Those tailgates mey make a comeback with the increasing popularity of station wagons (GO, Magnums, GO!).

Joe, I didn't see the show but I can't imagine going through all that work just to pull a couple of bags of groceries out of the back. If necessity is the mother of invention, what could possibly have been the mother of THAT set-up. No third row of seats on any '65 wagons.
