Hello,

So I've been gone for a few years, life is full of surprises and changes so fast. Anyways, I bought a black 2003 Silverado SS in 2006 with 70 000km on it and fell in love. I was 21 and it was such a great ride! It was a fantastic truck and I drove it everywhere, Unfortunately, I was a bit young and a little rough with it and after 190 000km on the odometer it was showing it's age.

During the 4 years I owned it I went on the first date with a girl who is now my wife. It was the truck that took us to the hospital to have a baby and the machine that brought home my little girl. My wife went for her first pass at the drag strip with it (it was also the tow vehicle for my 1967 Chevelle). I loved that truck. It was great but after a short time as a new father and a truck that needed some obvious work I was put in a situation where I could put about 5000 into it for repairs hoping it wouldn't need any other repairs or buy a new truck with low monthly payments. It was a 2011 Sierra Crew Cab with a 5.3 that had such great mileage it almost worked out to the same amount per month (SS fuel bill = 800, Sierra fuel bill + payment 900) and a crew cab is much more practical for a small family. I traded it in on a new 2011 GMC Sierra crew cab December 21st 2010 and from the moment I handed the salesman the keys I regretted my decision.

For the next 2 years I thought about the truck, wondered if someone had chopped it up (it was hurting) or if some young kid had it and was just wrecking it. Finally I looked for an old insurance slip and bought a used vehicle buyers package to see if the truck was still around (March of this year). I discovered that the truck had moved through 6 different dealerships/shops before being sold to a guy that lived about 150km from my house. The truck had a loan on it so I knew that whoever bought it probably was taking care of it because they owed money on it and was hoping that in a few years maybe I would be in a position to buy it back and restore it.

Late in June on a Sunday night I was looking on kijiji and saw a picture of my old SS! I knew it was mine! My wife knows how much I loved that truck and was probably getting sick of me taking detours to "accidentally" drive past a few of the local SS's in the area and told me that if I wanted it, I could buy it! I"m a lucky man.

I went that Monday night to talk to the owner and saw my truck for the first time in almost 2 and a half years. It was still hurting, still needs work but it's still on the road and needed mostly cosmetic work. I made a deal with the owner, and I'm proud to say that I have that same truck back in my driveway again and will never ever sell it or part with it again.

Now I just have to make the difficult decision of whether I restore the SS first or my first car (1967 Chevelle I bought when I was 15). Glad to be back on the site, have a great night.

Cheers!

I figure this post is useless without pictures.
There they are together, I contacted Vintage Vehicle Services and my Chevelle was originally Tuxedo Black so now I'm debating on painting them to match (the Silverado is Oynx Black). I'm not gonna sell it but I'm debating on turning my Malibu into an SS clone and I have a billet bowtie for the front of the Silverado with SS in it. I think they're gonna look awesome side by side in the garage, both with SS on the front :D

I just recently went through a similar situation. I had bought a brand new 2007 Trailblazer SS, and just recently traded it in on a 2009 crew cab sierra. Funny this is, I always really like the Silverado ss, and they had the exact same truck as yours at the dealer for sale when I traded in my TBSS, it was super clean and only had 20k miles on it for $20k, I was real tempted to trade for it, but I hate leather seats and the AWD wouldn't cut it for me in snow like 4WD would, so I got the sierra. I keep telling my wife how I miss my TBSS(also brought my daughter home from the hospital in it when she was born). If I could afford it(which I can't, just bought a house) I'd track it down and buy it back in a heartbeat. I kept that thing spotless and it only had 12,350 miles on it when I traded it in. I hope the new owner takes good care of it like I did, it was only on the lot for 2 weeks and it was sold.

Oh I live in Canada so I'm used to snow. I've driven gmt800s and my gmt900 4x4s and neither of them can handle snow like the ss. That awd system was amazing in the snow, complete control its just insane. Compared to any 4x4 its just a different machine. My ss will never see snow again but it's a shame because it is a far superior winter beater. The later year ss's had leather as an option but they were no longer awd and had 3.73 instead of 4.11
Axles.

Those trailblazer ss's are amazing! The new gmc typhoon! Who knows, maybe you'll do what I did and when life changes maybe you'll get her back. Wish the silverado ss got the LQ4 instead of the LQ9, amazing engines and higher hp stock.

I had a 92 mc typhoon, and sad to say the tbss was far superior, but in my opinion neither of them and both were AWD drove in the snow as good as any 4x4 I've ever had.

Ive always had a soft spot for the Silverado SS. But something with decent towing capacity would be nice as well. Do these AWD Silverado SS trucks have a decent towing capacity?
