An extended family member recently sold his 72 AMX Javelin 4 speed 390 for a song. It looked similar to this but white roof accents and no stripes, driver condition. He owned it for a long time. I learned about it too late to help him get a better deal as I don't think he fully understood what he had. :(

The Rambler Scrambler came with a 390 -315 HP (under rated) engine with 425 ft lb. of torque. On a side note had a buddy who had a stock '70 4 speed Nova SS who got smoked one night by a 304 Gremlin. We then drove home that night with our tail between our legs...

Definitely not like owning a Chevelle where almost everything is repro'd or available used. My family member was able to obtain and install new brake cables before he sold the car, but it was trial and error until he found a specialty supplier. Can't remember who that was. I could find out if anybody has a need to know.

Wasnt the last amx kind of like a 2 door hornet?
Like the whole concept.... Everyone scoffed at both back then..not sure why. Neighbors 69 AMX ran high 11s and he drove it to work. Car hauled the mail and was flawless.

Was it the amx or both that could be had with the different v8s...they had a 290 304,343 390, & the 401 starting in 70...did I miss one?

Were the front hood scoops on the 70 functional? Like that one the best...just different looking
Rear reminds me of a shelby/California special mustang.

Wouldnt mind a 70 Javelin AC car..gotta be tough to find.
Lots of room in the engine compartment more than I remember

Shame about your friend/family member..look at that hood..some resemblence to cowl induction
Sad thing is he will never be able to replace that car. There is a bright blue or violet one running around town very similar to that one. Older guy owns it drives it all the time.

yes the AMX became a sport package on the hornet toward the end, I owned one many moons ago but OH winters and road salt took it out lol. Mine had a rear window louver and ground effects from factory, I think they all did actually.
this link is to one same color and options mine had.

Hate to be "that guy" who posts too much in their own threads but...get all excited about this stuff. Still.

Jeb those flares/spoliler do a lot for that car it actually looks stylish. That was about the time the V8 Monzas and Charlie Angel Mustang II s came out no? Remember the King Cobra?

Realized why I like this pic...Let it go last yr, freeze plug behind the motor mount popped out. No mood to pull an engine in those..frigging nightmare and a half
Bitten by the L98 head gasket once again. That was a good solid ride, was my 100% DD

I heard that all those AMC V8's used the same block and the same cranks only just with different bores and stokes. Also heard that all V8's used forged cranks no matter what the CID was.
If that's BS let me know

I wish my neighbor would forget about the SST he had back in the day. Every time I pull my Chevelle or other toys out of my garage, he comes running over to shoot the breeze. Every time, it's the same ole SST story. Before he finishes, the car is warmed up and I politely excuse myself.

Never heard the forged crank bit on the amc, curious to know also.

Does anybody even make afermarket intakes or heads for those?

74? Wonder why they never caught on? Catchy shape..2 seater lots of engine choices all the right ingredients.

To drop one about 2 inches, fill the wheelwells with rubber maybe some tasteful flares, that old road race look..heck yes

In many cases yes. One of better known suppliers for a long time was Eddie Stakes out of Houston. I sold my entire AMC stash to another AMC specialist in Phoenix. Including two disc brake setups. Yep the parts were a tough sell. Niche market.
