After 8 years  I finally hooked my kickdown up on TH400..just because :D
Anyway,my previous WOT shift points where 5200-5300 rpms on 1-2 shift and 5000 on the 2-3...now with the kickdown plugged in,the 1-2 shift is now at 6000 and I am not about to try a 2-3 WOT shift yet...so is this about right? hooking it up changed it that much?

Bill,I actually prefer the 5200-5300 on the 1-2 shift...car ET's best at that shift point. If it shifts at 6000 it slows down.
I will be unplugging the kickdown at the track.
On the Goodyear Polyglas tires,it already has a nice "tire frying result" at 5200-5300 on the 1-2 shift w/o the kickdown :D

Have any governor modifications been done? Your shift point at 6k would indicate something has been played with.........:D

52 to 5300 is obtainable with the kick-down hooked up.....

When you get it dialed in there is nothing better imho....:noway:
I will be shooting for a similar shift point in the near future.....I hope.....

yup....I modified it via Jakeshoe's advice.
I do happen to have a stock, unmodified governor I could install too.
While we are on the topic, any need for an extra ground for the kickdown?

Test a few governors to find one with that sweet spot......
I've read, the larger "ink stamped numbers" on TH-400 govenors, indicate the higher-RPM shift points ....
quotes from the Pontiac website...
Use a Govenor with the highest inkstamp number you can find ...

Good numbers are 21 23 25 27 31 33.

Bad numbers are 9, 11, 13, 15 ...

11 is the worst, 13 is bad, 17 is good, 23 is great, 27 is small-cheby stuff.

My 1970 LS5/TH400 (CS code) has #22 stamped on it, with A stamped on the side 1-2 shifts @5500RPM ...

I also have, a 1969 GTO 400/TH400 (PX code) govenor w/#13 stamped on it (not tested it yet) ...

I'm curious what, "ink stamped number" came on a stock 1970 LS6 govenor ???????

If you need a brand new #34410 govenor, which I bought one ($29.95+shipping) last week for modification purposes, it looks just like the original, but it actually 1-2 shifts @4500RPM ... it has no, ink stamp number.
I can honestly say, TSR Racing Products, had very fast e-mail response and shipping ......

Thought I'd bring this back to the top as an FYI for anyone playing with WOT shift points...
I installed the B&M weights number 1 and 4 and using stock springs the 1-2 shift is at 5700 right right now...might go down to the 1 and 3 weights next, but for now its fairly decent....part throttle shifts are not late either
