I pulled these off today to convert the Nova to larger brakes, but when the crud started coming off they have a weird spot in the casting that appears to have piece broken off. Has anyone seen this before? The casting line is apparent on either side of the area as if something was there when cast. It will not affect the operation on the Nova and there was nothing I could see on the Oldsmobile that would have required a boss to be in this area

Maybe this was a riser from the casting process and it was very poorly not ground off? Or maybe some has replaced the spindles on the donor car before and used something that was close but grinded off an accesory to make it work?

Just my thoughts.

It was my son's car and as far as we can tell it has never been apart, still had the ball joint rivits on the uppers.
you are probably correct in thinking it was just an extra casting from the process and removed poorly. I can not think of anything that could have possibly been mounted in that area on any car.
This is the same area on the Nova spindle.

Thanks guys.

Today they were cleaned and painted, ready to install. I'll order the 1LE F body rotors and very soon have 12" brake rotors on the Nova.

In 75 the Nova front end was changed and uses parts from the 2nd generation F body which is a tall spindle set up.
