Where does the tach wire go through the firewall in a 72ss454 el camino and what does it look like? I just got a nice unrestored original and the tach does not work. It is the only thing on the car that does not work. Trying to trace wire from tach to firewall to coil. Or how could I run a new wire from coil to Factory tach? Is my tach fried?

The tach wire is in the dash harness and engine harness. It passes through the firewall in the bulkhead connector. It's a brown wire that should exit the main engine harness bundle, along with the coil power wire. I believe the exit location is in the firewall mounted black plastic wire duct. The wire connects to the coil - terminal.

There are two wires from the (-) side of the coil. One goes to the distr and the other goes to a ?radio capacitor? mounted on the firewall directly behind distr. A brown wire goes from the oppisite end of this capacitor into the harness. Is this the tach wire?
