I have a frustrating problem on my SS454. The original factory tach is reading RPM speed twice the expected amount. Any suggestions or should I just replace the tach with another one I have on hand? I was thinking maybe it was a simple wire connection problem or perhaps a bad circuit board on the back of the dash cluster?

chuck...you might check with the clock doc at 1-800-256-5362. they restore clocks or will convert to quartz. they also restore tachs. i highly recommend them.

What ignition system are you using, original points or HEI or ?. Sometimes the factory tach won't work right with aftermarket ignitions.

you may need to do the HEI mod on your tach, or could possibly have problems with a ground. Doy LeCroy is just outside of Mesquite and specializes in tach repairs, email me if you need a phone number

Thanks for the input guys. I am running stock points and condenser. I think I will try one of the other factory tachs I have and see if one of them works correctly and if not, I know I have a wiring problem. If one of the other tachs works OK then I will get the one in the car repaired as a back up.
