High all, first post here. I just had my trans rebuilt and it wont shift into second or third, it has a Hughes manual valve body in it. It goes into reverse and first fine but when I shift into second it slips and third does the same thing. I dropped the v/b out to apply air pressure to that 12 point bolt in the case, I could hear it clunk inside but could also hear air by-passing in the case, I have been getting conflicting reports as to whether this is acceptable or not. I did check to see if the manual valve was properly indexed and it was, the shifter is properly indexed also. Do I have a bad lip seal? Do I have to remove the trans and tear it down again? What should I look for when it is opened up, as I do not want to do this again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

How much pressure did you test with? Can't use more than 30psi, I like to use 20-25. I've flipped good seals before, just being careless. Is the modulator valve still in the case, whether or not you have the modulator too? Some kits still allow use of the modulator for softening up the hit on the shifts, but the valve still needs to be inside, regardless.

Thanks Cam, I tested with about 30psi. The modulator valve is still in place with a couple of flats ground on it. I just sent the valve body back to Hughes, they are going to run it on a dyno for me, if it checks out I guess I will have to pull the tranny....again:mad: . Thanks for the reply.
Just noticed you live in HI. To cool. My wife and I got married there in 1991. Waimea national park. The most beautiful place I have ever seen.

I had the same shifting issue with my 400, turned out to be the plastic govener gear was worn out (apple cored) I know nothing about tranmissions or if yours uses this gear, but it solved my problems.

I believe I found the problem with your valve body and Big Mike talked to you on the phone about it.

Yes, thanks for the reply Tony. I am very happy the problem was found in the valve body. This is the problem with changing three components at the same time, when something goes wrong you don't know where to go. I am glad you guys at Hughes took the time to dyno my v/b and find my problem. Thanks a bunch.:hurray:
