I'am switching my 1969 chevelle malibu from a powerglide to a turbo 350, Is the drive shaft the same length? It has 373 gears & I'am sure that I will have to change the speedometer gear in the tail shaft,Does the piece on the rear output shaft have to be changed? Also what is the proper speedometer gear to get?:hurray:

I replaced the PG in my '69 Malibu to a TH350. The tailhousing on a TH350 is slightly longer than the PG but the driveshaft will fit--barely. I had to have the rear axle resting on jackstands for normal ride height (front yoke goes into the trans the furthest) for the rear Ujoint to go into the yoke. Other than that you'll have to do some bending of the PG cooler lines and if you're using a column shifter, some cutting and welding of the linkage at the frame is required, or TH350 linkage parts. You can cut the PG steel vac modulator line and use a longer rubber hose to connect the line to the modulator. As far as speedo gears, the driven gears are the same as PG but the drive gear (and you'll probably need a different one with 3.73's) are different. Go to www.tciauto.com and find their speedo gear section to calculate what you need and find the gears to buy. The column shift indicator will be missing D2 but it doesn't really matter unless you're anal like me. I was lucky enough to find one to buy (thanks T-Man).

Time to enter the WayBack Machine and resurrect an old thread.... b/c I'm stuck.

I'm wrapping up the very last part of a PowerGlide to TH-350 swap.

Regarding the gear shift indicator, I have the sticker from ShiftWorks...but I can't figure out how to install it. I believe the gauge cluster has to be pulled out....meaning all the lights and wires? How on Earth do I get the new sticker inside the plastic lens and behind the red pointer?

My dash is currently apart...so anything is on the table.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

the lens comes right off the cluster with a few screws once you get the bezel out of the way.. can probably do it with the cluster still in the dash, but getting the sticker on straight might be more difficult than if you have the cluster out of the car on the bench.

Derrik: Thanks for the quick response.

Aren't there some green "things" that need to be melted off before the lens can be removed?

The job has turned out to be much more involved than I would have imagined...but it's too late to turn back now, so to speak.
