I took the windshield and back glass out of the 72 malibu and now I have all that tar or whatever it's called left over. How do I get it off. I tried the scraper and it just sticks to it and stretches out. Or is this my only option?

3M makes a nice solvent for butyle windshield caulk.
Or the "rope" as it is called.
Try the autoparts store.
The stuff 3M has will not harm paint.

Use that and a wire brush (hand wire brush)
I bought some small ones that were 3/4" wide and 1 1/2" long.
sat right in the window channel.

The 3M stuff will take it right off. Its called all purpose cleaner, comes in a red metal can. just soak a rag with the cleaner, the tar will wipe right off. Eric

Need to cut the excess off first using a utility knife. Don't try to scrape it...it will just spread. WD40 will help remove the residue too.
