I have a 65 El Camino with a new radiator, problem is that the rad has the inlet on the passenger side and my t-stat housing is pointing towards the driver's side.
It has a hard and brittle flex hose on there now that I'm looking to replace but I can't find one that is a direct fit.

My thoughts are to get a swivel housing and connect it to the rad with a pretty staraight hose then use the water temp location for the heater box hose and then? Can I put the water temp sensor where there is a big bolt on top of where the water pump lives?

Any ideas on how to get this to work would be great.

I went and got a straight out housing with the same type of hoses you have and I have never had a problem with kinks or anything.
You could purchase a straight T-Stat housing and move the heater hose to the intake. I don't think it is correct in the housing.
I kinda did that today, got a swivel one and now the hoses look alot better.
However, I'm not sure where to put the water temp sensor? I have the one hole on top of the water pump that is empty, could that be used for a temp sensor or is there a Y-connection that can be used on the intake?

Mine is identical to this one: http://store.bigcitycorvettes.com/images/bigcitycorvettes/products/3927184-001.JPG

That's a later model intake.they had the temp senders in the head.I don,t think you can run the sensor in the pump as you may have clearance issues with the propeller in the pump. Those old style heads don,t have a coolant plug in the head so you may have to get a diff.intake or be inventive with the heater hose hookup.

Ah, I see. I'll try and fit some sort of T or Y fitting from the intake to both heater core hose and temp sensor, this until I find some sort of adapter underneath the t-stat housing (can't find the link, I know I saw it somewhere).

The correct way to fix this if first to get yourself a swivel type thermostat housing. (The housing you're showing in the picture was made for later cars which had a sensor for the egr valve, but not for a hose). Then for the heater hose, connect it to the port on top of the water pump, where there is a plug right now. Leave the temperature sensor in the intake and that's it!

Good luck,

Claude. ;)
