The Black Car will be ready for his maiden voyage on Sunday.:hurray:What is the normal driving time or mileage before you know you put it back together correctly?

i figure a 5 mile drive will be enough to get things up to temp and tell you if anything's going to fall off.. then just work up to longer and longer trips as your confidence level increases.

After you do your first GOOD burnout and hammer the throttle from a stop light:D If it's going to fall off/break/explode, that's most likely when it'll do it....in a spectacular fashion. In all honesty, that's when I figured out my reverse light switch grounded out, blew the fuse and shut my electric fuel pump off when backing up after the first burnout upon competion of reassembly(both are switched with the accessory circuit, pump with a relay). Luckily I was in the long driveway still and was able to push it back in the garage to fix the reverse light switch bracket properly.

First I went around the block a couple of times, then around the neighborhood a couple of times (made sure the wife was home and near her cell phone). Next drove the car 5 miles to get it aligned. The muncie shifter locked in second gear about a mile from the house. Drove the next four miles in second gear but nothing fell off.

I like to have a friend follow or at least be available to call for assistance if something goes wrong. Carry a few tools and stop and walk around the car after a short drive. Check for leaks, small fires, etc. When I first took my 69SS out I drove over to my buddies place and we noticed I had not tightened the front bumper bolts enough and the bumper had tilted down and put some small gouges in the fenders. My body man touched them up and no harm done but far worse stuff can happen.
